PORT HUENEME : Merchant Stabbed to Death in Robbery Try
A Canoga Park man who operated a local convenience store was stabbed to death in Port Hueneme late Friday during a botched robbery, police said.
Mohineer Bassi, 42, was stabbed several times in the chest and stomach at the B-Mart on East Pleasant Valley Road about 9:30 p.m. Friday, a Port Hueneme Police Department spokeswoman said. Bassi, described by a neighboring merchant as an employee of B-Mart, staggered next door to the Jester Room Bar, where an ambulance was called, the spokeswoman said.
Bassi was taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, where he died in surgery, a Ventura County coroner’s office spokesman said.
Following leads gathered at the scene, Port Hueneme homicide detectives arrested Adolfo Carrillo, 32, of Port Hueneme early Saturday on suspicion of killing Bassi, the police spokeswoman said.
