Hearvey, Irvine Valley Beat Saddleback, 68-64

Brandon Hearvey had 21 points to help Irvine Valley beat district-rival Saddleback, 68-64, in an Orange Empire Conference men’s basketball game Friday at Saddleback.

Guards J.C. Timmons and Allen Fletcher each had 14 points for Irvine Valley (15-5, 2-0), which led at the half, 33-32.

Saddleback’s Leif Kemp had 17 points on eight-of-12 shooting from the field before fouling out with 2 minutes 20 seconds left.

Kemp was one of three Saddleback starters to foul out. Brian Scoggin got his fifth foul with 3:17 left and Scott Duffy got No. 5 with 12 seconds left.

Saddleback (9-8) is off to an 0-2 start in conference after going 12-2 and tying for first last season.

In other conference games:

Riverside 106, Orange Coast 97--Adrian Reyes set an Orange Coast record with nine three-pointers and finished with a game-high 39 for the host Pirates (9-9, 0-2).

Reyes made a three-pointer with 1:51 left to get the Pirates as close as six, 97-91, with about two minutes left. He had also scored the first eight points of the second half to give the Pirates a 51-50 lead.

Reyes, a sophomore guard who was 12 of 19 from the field, made nine of 12 three-pointers. John Betham made seven of nine three-pointers and finished with 25 points for Riverside (15-6, 2-0).

Cypress 68, Golden West 51--Kevin Morris scored 20 to lead Cypress (9-8, 1-1).

Willie Allen had 11 points and A.D. Lamoureux had 10 points and 14 rebounds for Cypress, which came back after losing in the final two seconds, 71-70, to Fullerton Wednesday.

Jacy Armbruster led Golden West (5-13, 0-2) with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Ray Jimmerson had 13 points for Golden West.

Fullerton 77, Rancho Santiago 66--Anthony Steen had 15 points and Erick Ashe scored 14 for Fullerton (9-9, 2-0), which didn’t win a conference game last season. Lohnnie Tape finished with 16 points for Rancho Santiago (12-5, 1-1).
