Florida Builds Fast Start to 6-0

Taurean Green scored 18 points, Corey Brewer had 17 and No. 11 Florida beat Alabama State, 87-60, on Monday night at Gainesville, Fla.

The Gators (6-0) are off to their best start in Coach Billy Donovan’s 10 years. Florida last started 6-0 in 1984-85.

Florida was bigger, faster and deeper than Alabama State (1-5). The Gators shot 65% from the field, had a 34-24 rebounding advantage, blocked nine shots and had six steals.

Al Horford had 12 points and 11 rebounds for his second double-double of the season and Lee Humphrey scored 13 points for Florida.

The Gators opened the game with a 10-0 run, maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the first half and then pulled away.

Green was 10 for 10 from the free-throw line and has made 24 in a row. He was 14 for 14 in the second half Friday night against Florida State.

LaMarquis Blake had 16 points and Cedric Mitchell had 13 for Alabama State.

No. 9 Memphis 108, Lamar 83 -- Chris Douglas-Roberts scored 23 points and Rodney Carney and Shawne Williams each had 21 as the Tigers (4-1) overcame a sluggish start and the absence of point guard Darius Washington to beat the Cardinals (1-3) at Memphis, Tenn.

Douglas-Roberts, Carney and Williams were a combined 21 for 42 from the field for Memphis, which shot 48.8%. Joey Dorsey had 13 rebounds as Memphis outrebounded Lamar 65-32.

Alan Daniels led Lamar with 41 points.

Matt Haryasz had 16 points and 12 rebounds to help Stanford (2-1) to an 82-58 win over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1-3) at Palo Alto. Stanford, which also got a season-high 22 points from Chris Hernandez, has won two in a row since a disappointing loss to UC Irvine.... Seven-footers Jason Smith and Stuart Creason combined for 39 points and 15 rebounds to lead Colorado State (5-0) to a 77-67 win over Auburn (2-1) at Fort Collins, Colo. The Rams had a school-record 12 blocked shots.... Ron Lewis scored seven points in a 10-0 game-closing run to lead Ohio State (3-0) to a 69-56 victory over Virginia Tech (5-2) at Columbus, Ohio, in the opening game of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
