A sprawling Hollywood Hills villa where the late Andrew R. Getty, an heir to the Getty oil fortune, made his home for nearly two decades has sold for $6.1 million.

Sitting on a hilltop overlooking the San Fernando Valley, the classic Spanish Revival estate is firmly rooted in Old Hollywood history. Hungarian-born composer and musician Miklos Rozsa, who won Oscars for his scoring of “Spellbound” (1945), “A Double Life: (1947) and “Ben-Hur” (1959), formerly owned the property for half a century.

Getty, who last year died unexpectedly at 47, bought the property from Rozsa’s estate in 1996 for $990,000, records show.

Designed by John L. DeLario, the 1920s home retains its vintage good looks. Details of note include arched doors and windows, beamed ceilings and Saltillo tile floors. Artful tile risers and delicate stained glass create visual interest throughout the 4,712 square feet of interiors.

Among amenities is an office/library, a wine vault and a safe room. The master suite, one of eight bedrooms and six bathrooms, has a brightly tiled bathroom, herringbone wood floors and a separate sitting room.

Walking paths lead away from the main house to a kidney-shaped swimming pool and a two-story cabana with a viewing deck. Mature trees, succulents and cacti gardens fill the roughly seven-acre grounds.

The house came to market in February for $7.95 million and was more recently listed for $6.995 million, records show.

Josh Flagg of Rodeo Realty was the listing agent. Alex Brunkhorst of The Agency repped the buyer.
