MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Facebook is holding a news conference at its headquarters to unveil the new look of News Feed.

It’s the latest effort by the giant social network to get its 1 billion users to spend more time on the service and to get advertisers to spend more money there.

Facebook rolled out a new social search feature in January.

The News Feed is the most valuable real estate on Facebook. It’s where users check out status updates from their friends, businesses, celebrities and other stuff they “like.” So Facebook is looking to make it more engaging and relevant amid warning signs that younger users in particular are not as glued to the service as they once were.

Facebook has tweaked News Feed over the years. The last major update was in 2011.
