Microsoft also looking at making a smartwatch, report says

Like many of its rivals, Microsoft may be working on a wristwatch that could double as a computer and a smartphone.

The Redmond, Wash., company has reached out to its suppliers for parts that would be used in a smartwatch, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal. But one of the sources, an unnamed executive at an unnamed supplier, says it’s unclear if Microsoft will indeed decide to get into the smartwatch business.

In the meantime, though, the company has requested 1.5-inch displays that could be used for the rumored device.

Since December, many tech companies have been rumored to be working on smartwatch devices. Many believe wearable technology is the future of the industry, and that’s led to wide rumors of companies working on wristwatches that function similarly to smartphones.

Google, Samsung and LG are also rumored to be or are working on next generation smartwatches, but none of their devices is gaining as much speculation as Apple’s. The Cupertino, Calif., tech company is also expected to be working on a smartwatch device, which could be called the iWatch, and reports have said it is dedicating as many as 100 employees to the project.

When might we see these watches? Only time will tell.
