Microsoft won’t be able to release the Surface Pro tablet in January as it originally said, but the tech giant will miss its deadline only by a few days.

The Redmond, Wash.,-based company announced Tuesday that the Surface Pro will go on sale Feb. 9.

The Surface Pro starts at $899 and offers more power and capabilities than the Surface RT. Unlike its limited sibling, the Surface Pro can run Windows 7 applications and uses Windows 8 Pro.

The base model Surface Pro comes with 64 gigabytes of storage and a stylus that Microsoft is calling the “Surface pen.” The Surface Pro runs on an Intel Core i5 processor and its 10.6-inch screen has a full HD 1,920 by 1,080 pixel resolution, which is an improvement over the display on the Surface RT.

The Surface Pro is also available in a 128 GB version for $999.

The Surface Pro will be available from Microsoft Stores, Staples and Best Buy in the U.S. Microsoft will also release the Surface Pro in Canada on the same date.

Besides the announcement of the Surface Pro, Microsoft also said it will begin to sell a version of the 64 GB Surface RT without a keyboard cover at $599 -- $100 less than the current 64 GB Surface RT with touch cover.

Microsoft also said it will sell three limited-edition type covers for $129.99. They’ll be in red, magenta and cyan.
