We can now add Motorola to the growing list of Android gadget-makers that will be waiting until the second half of the year to update the majority of its devices to Ice Cream Sandwich.

On Wednesday, Motorola announced its road map for upgrades to Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of the Google-built operating system, and everything that will get an upgrade will have to wait until the third quarter of the year except for the Motorola Xoom tablet and the non-U.S. versions of the Razr smartphone.

The Xoom Family Edition tablet, Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition tablets, Xyboard 8.2 and 10.1 tablets, and the Atrix 4G, Atrix 2 and Photon 4G smartphones will get updated in the third quarter of the year, Motorola said.

In the U.S., Verizon’s Motorola lineup doesn’t yet have a time frame for Ice Cream Sandwich updates, which is disappointing news given that many of Motorola’s most popular devices are exclusive to the carrier, including the Droid Razr, Droid Razr Maxx, Droid 3, Droid 4, Droid X2 and Droid Bionic.

Ice Cream Sandwich made its debut in December on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, and even Samsung is taking its time updating devices to the latest flavor of Android.

Samsung has said its Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note phones will be updated in the first quarter 2012 and that other devices would follow later in the year.

HTC recently said that three of its phones would get Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of the year while the rest would have to wait until later in the year.

LG has said its Ice Cream Sandwich upgrades would arrive in the “second and third quarters of 2012” and Sony has said 11 of its smartphones and its two tablets will get Ice Cream Sandwich in mid-2012.

Below is Motorola’s chart of U.S. devices and when they are planning to move over to Ice Cream Sandwich. For information on Motorola’s updates in Canada, Mexico, Asia and the rest of the world, check out Motorola’s software update listing.
