40 California museums have reopened or set dates. Here’s the latest list

Los Angeles and Orange counties, as well as much of the Bay Area, have moved from the red tier to the orange tier in California’s system for COVID-19 restrictions, allowing newly reopened museums to welcome larger numbers of visitors.

Here’s an updated list of major museums across the state that have reopened, as well as confirmed dates for institutions that are still rehiring workers, putting safety protocols in place and otherwise preparing to reopen after a yearlong closure. Among the additions to the list: the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, the Broad in downtown L.A. and Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena.

Note that some counties — notably Santa Barbara — remain in the red tier and have greater restrictions on how many people can be granted museum reservations (and you will need a reservation). Check The Times’ COVID-19 tracker for updates to county classifications, and check back here often to see the latest updates.
