5 top TV moments of Broadway baby Sutton Foster

Alas, ABC Family’s “Bunheads” finished its second season this week. That’s the fast-talking series starring Broadway triple threat Sutton Foster.

But “Bunheads” isn’t really about Sutton’s character, Michelle Simms. Actually the show isn’t about any one thing, but a lot of little things going on in the fictional California coastal town of Paradise, where Michelle mentors young ballerinas (a.k.a. Bunheads).

For Broadway fans, the best episodes showcase the two-time Tony winner. Any opportunity to see Foster strut her stuff, however fleeting, is like a shiny bauble, worth savoring.

With the show possibly on its last lanky leg (read more about that here), we share our five favorite Foster TV moments.

1. On this week’s finale, Michelle snuck off to an audition for a musical version of “Dark Victory.” Dissuaded by pianist Seth Rudetsky from singing “I Dreamed a Dream,” Michelle performed “If My Friends Could See Me Now” from “Sweet Charity” while her young charges watched. Watch:

2. Typically short for “Bunheads” but very sweet was this “Me and My Baby” from Kander and Ebb’s “Chicago” (Episode 4):

3. Revel in Foster’s moves with this rendition of “Maybe This Time” from Kander and Ebb’s “Cabaret” (Episode 10):

4. Michelle shows Ginny (Bailey Buntain) how to sell a song with “It’s a Perfect Relationship” from “Bells Are Ringing” (Episode 16):

5. We intentionally labeled this “TV moments” and not “Bunheads” moments so we had an excuse to revisit Foster’s tour de force performance with the cast of “Anything Goes” on the 2011 Tony Awards:

But wait -- here’s a bonus video from “Bunheads.” No Foster, but the first glimpse that this show was not your typical TV series:
