Nicholas Brendon of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fame has apologized for behavior that resulted in his arrest Friday night in Boise, Idaho, and indicated he will be going to rehab.

The actor was arrested on suspicion of resisting and obstructing arrest after an apparently drunken incident in a hotel lobby the night before he was to appear at a Comic-Con event, TMZ reported Saturday. He was also hit with a charge of “malicious injury to property” after allegedly breaking a decorative dish.

“I can offer an explanation but I make no excuse for my unacceptable behavior,” the actor said in a Facebook post Monday that began simply with the words “I apologize.”

Brendon explained that for five days he’d been on drugs for a cyst behind his knee ahead of surgery that was scheduled for Monday, but “made the poor decision to mix this prescribed medication with alcohol. The result was embarrassing and unacceptable.”

“I intend to seek appropriate treatment and therapy for my medical ailments as well as my emotional demons,” he said before apologizing again and thanking family, friends and fans for their support.

The 43-year-old, who has a recurring role on the drama series “Criminal Minds,” previously checked himself into rehab in 2005 and then again in May 2010 after a March 2010 arrest in Santa Monica on suspicion of vandalism, resisting arrest and battery on a police officer. He reportedly had tried to run away and had taken swings at a couple of cops.

A source told Radar Online at the time that Brendon said he was blacked out on a mix of alcohol and drugs and didn’t remember the incident except for being tased.

He pleaded no contest to the charges, UPI said, and was hit with 10 days of community service plus three years’ probation.
