David Letterman bid farewell to "The Late Show" on Wednesday night and while most viewers were sad to see him go, others were grateful that the "long national nightmare" was indeed over.

Ahead of the final episode, during and after, #ThanksDave tributes poured in on social media with everyone from A-listers to fair weather fans paying homage to Letterman and his 33-year-long career.
