Demi Moore files divorce papers, responding to Ashton Kutcher

Demi Moore has filed divorce papers in response to those filed by Ashton Kutcher in December.

Moore is seeking spousal support from Kutcher, reportedly the highest-paid man in television, and wants him to pay her legal fees, according to a document obtained by TMZ.

The reason for the split is the old standby, irreconcilable differences, which might also describe what arose during settlement negotiations the couple had been attempting over the past year or so, the New York Post reported. The talks bogged down after a year, a source told the paper.

The couple split up in mid-November 2011, with Kutcher finally filing for divorce the Friday before Christmas 2012. (For those keeping track of lengthy celebrity breakups, @aplusk and the former @mrskutcher have been splitting for 15 months now. Compare that to Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ breakup, which just rolled into month 17 since they split at the end of October 2011. Important to note: Kim didn’t wait more than a year to file papers, like Ashton did.)

Moore was the one to announce their split in 2011, saying, “It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I have decided to end my six-year marriage to Ashton. As a woman, a mother and a wife there are certain values and vows that I hold sacred, and it is in this spirit that I have chosen to move forward with my life. This is a trying time for me and my family, and so I would ask for the same compassion and privacy that you would give to anyone going through a similar situation.”

Kutcher had reportedly cheated on Moore with a 22-year-old San Diego woman, Sara Leal, on their sixth wedding anniversary. At the time, the “St. Elmo’s Fire” actress was in New York promoting a short-film anthology she’d participated in for Lifetime. It was her first time behind the camera.

Moore’s intent to file was first reported by the Post on Wednesday.

“Ashton made a lot of money after marrying Demi — a lot more than she made — but despite him becoming just as famous through her, he believes he doesn’t owe her that much,” a source told the Post. “She has had enough.”
