Step aside, Blue Ivy Carter, there’s more lil’ pop royalty on the way. Rap star Kanye West on Sunday night unveiled at an Atlantic City, N.J., concert that his significant other, Kim Kardashian, was expecting their first child. “Can we make some noise for my baby mama right now?” West said from the stage.

But never fear, baby watchers, just in case you wanted something a little more legit than some Kanye stage patter to confirm the news, Kardashian has you covered. She affirmed the news on her official site Monday morning.

Kardashian wrote, “It’s true!! Kanye and I are expecting a baby. We feel so blessed and lucky and wish that in addition to both of our families, his mom and my dad could be here to celebrate this special time with us. Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family.”

A release date for the child was not yet revealed. E! News, however, writes that Karashian is about 12 weeks along.

West and Kardashian have been dating only since early 2012, and the recent announcement should keep both stars at the top of the gossip pages for months to come. There’s already been speculation that the two would marry, as West hinted at wedding bells in his recent single “White Dress.” The song, released for the film “The Man With the Iron Fists,” contains this lyric: ‘You the type of girl that probably deserve a new last name.”

The baby announcement has taken attention away from West’s words on Saturday night. Footage of West’s Atlantic City concert from Saturday shows the star ranting once again at the Grammy Awards, a popular target for the star. During a performance of “Clique,” West broke from the song to admonish Grammy voters for recognizing him only in “the black categories,” referring to the rap genre field.

“I love Maroon 5, but when I lost best new artist to Maroon 5,” West said, trailing off. “So don’t expect me to see the Grammys this year.”

So strike Grammy and Maroon from the list of potential baby names.
