Nile Rodgers hints at 2013 release for Daft Punk collaboration

The long-rumored Nile Rodgers-Daft Punk collaboration may soon see daylight, according to the Chic frontman himself.

In a blog item on his own website, Rodgers posted this cheeky Photoshop of himself and the French electronica duo, with the title “2013 Won’t Be Boring.” In commenting on his recent Japanese tour, Rodgers noted: “The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums, as well as a number of songs I’m working on over the next few months with a select group of artists, and of course finally, my lost CHIC and solo material. No matter how it ends, 2013 Won’t Be Boring!”

Rodgers and Daft Punk are both known for groundbreaking disco-funk, and the long-hinted collaboration is one of the most anticipated records in dance music. Daft Punk most recently scored the Disney film “Tron: Legacy” in 2010, but hasn’t released a new studio album since 2005’s “Human After All.”

As the ramp-up to the Coachella lineup announcement continues, Daft Punk is one name frequently speculated as a headliner (its 2006 Coachella set remains one of the fest’s most beloved). But some concert-booking sources remain skeptical, and nothing has been formally announced. Except, of course, for that cryptic photo of a spherical rock on the festival grounds.
