Elle Magazine’s 20th Annual Women In Hollywood event brought lots of lovelies out Monday night in Los Angeles, including Marion Cotillard and Reese Witherspoon.

Elle has been in the news because of the November magazine cover featuring Melissa McCarthy, who was at the event. Some critics suggested the actress was styled in a shapeless coat on the cover to disguise her size, although she has since said that she picked the coat herself.

At the Oct. 21 celebration, she wore a cool, black-and-white Calvin Klein layered ensemble comprised of a white bolero over a longer length black leather tunic and fitted pants. Anything but shapeless, the look had a great edge, topped off by her pompadour hairstyle.

Calvin Klein was a sponsor of the event, so naturally, lots of ladies wore Francisco Costa’s designs. Another favorite was Naomie Harris in a black-and-white thread-work cocktail dress from the Spring 2014 Calvin Klein runway collection, which managed to be both craftsy and flapper-glam at the same time. If I had one gripe, it would be that the dress could have been more fitted to her frame.

On Tuesday in New York, the Fashion Group International hosted its 30th Annual Night of Stars, with Miley Cyrus, Karlie Kloss and more.

Taylor Schilling wore a sleek white Zuhair Murad dress with black floral embroidery, which was less sparkly and more covered up than what we’re used to seeing from the Lebanese designer, who gained a lot of attention for dressing Jennifer Lopez and Kristen Stewart in next-to-nothing sheer gowns on the red carpet.

Alexa Chung’s black suit with jeweled and folded details at the hem of the jacket was another hit, a wonderful twist on the tuxedo from British designer Christopher Kane’s Spring 2014 collection.
