Some people do a happy dance when they eat pie. Singer James Wright posts a video of himself on YouTube wearing a bedazzled hat, channeling Patti LaBelle and doing a little dance while eating pie — and racks up more than 2.2 million views.

In a recent video, Wright samples and reviews a Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie from Wal-Mart in real time. And yes, the Grammy Award-winning artist has her face on boxes of pies that sell for $3.48 at Wal-Mart.

In Wright’s video, he opens a box, takes a couple of bites of pie, and starts screaming LaBelle’s name. After his third bite, he breaks into “Isn’t it a shame.” By bite four, he’s belting out “When you’ve been blessed.” He also uses plenty of profanity, so consider this your official warning. After watching the video, you may also feel strongly about having Wright review everything ever created.

Once his piece of pie is finished, Wright has to dance. Then he instructs viewers to go to Wal-Mart and buy the Patti LaBelle pie. Apparently his more than 2.2 million YouTube viewers listened.

After Wright posted his video, Wal-Mart sold out of Patti LaBelle pies. Vice president for bakery and deli at Wal-Mart, Kerry Robinson, told NPR that the stores were selling an average of one LaBelle pie per second the weekend after the video posted.

A search for “Patti LaBelle sweet potato pie” on EBay returned dozens of listings, including one vendor offering a “buy-it-now price” of $60.

Other companies that should consider hiring Wright to do publicity include: General Motors, the Beverly Hills Hotel and probably American Apparel.
