The Hudson reopens after a remodel, offers half-off cocktails

The popular neighborhood West Hollywood bar and restaurant, The Hudson, is set to reopen Thursday after owners Beau Laughlin and Brett Cranston closed it down three weeks ago for an extensive remodel of the decor and the menu.

Open since October 2009, The Hudson has become a popular local hangout, but Laughlin and Cranston wanted to freshen it up by removing a false ceiling to reveal the structure’s original wood beams and A-frame roof, a move that adds an additional 8 feet of space above diners’ heads.

They also rebuilt the bar, with the help of designer Jeanmarie Dumouchel, to include a new countertop, new bar stools and an antique back-bar mirror. In addition, the wood-and-concrete floors have been refinished, the banquettes have been reupholstered, new communal tables have been added and vintage wallpaper, moldings and wood cabinets have been installed.

The outside of the restaurant received some TLC as well. It was sanded, stained and repainted, and a bike rack was added.

Best of all, cocktail maven Mia Sarazen (Harvard & Stone, Black Market SoHo House), is taking a spot behind the bar after successfully designing the cocktail list at The Hudson’s sister restaurant, The Churchill.

Her new drinks include a yummy-sounding number called Starry Night, made with Kappa pisco, creme de cassis, lemon juice and orgeat. All cocktails (normally priced at $11) will be half-off on Thursday night in celebration of the reopening.
