The former home of legendary director Orson Welles has come on the market in the Sunset Strip area at $1,285,000.

The gated one-third-acre compound includes a Southern Colonial-style main house built in 1921, a guesthouse and a swimming pool. Crown molding and wainscoting are among the period details.

Welles, who died at 70 in 1985, gained widespread recognition in 1938 with his panic-inducing “The War of the Worlds” radio adaptation of Martian invasion and for the 1941 film “Citizen Kane.”

Sharona Alperin of Sotheby’s International Realty’s Sunset office is the listing agent.
