Earthquake: 3.1 quake strikes near Huntington Beach

A shallow magnitude 3.1 earthquake was reported Monday morning three miles from Huntington Beach, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 3:40 a.m. PST at a depth of 8.7 miles.

According to the USGS, the epicenter was four miles from Seal Beach, five miles from Fountain Valley and six miles from Westminster.

In the last 10 days, there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby -- a 2.5 temblor at 10:44 p.m. Sunday.
