Nearly 100 firefighters battled a large commercial fire Thursday night in El Sereno, authorities said.

The fire was reported about 6:15 p.m. in a one-story building in the 5000 block of Alhambra Avenue, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Erik Scott said.

The 5,000-square-foot building was “well-involved in flames” and firefighters took a defensive approach to controlling the blaze, Scott said.

Footage of the fire broadcast by KTLA-TV Channel 5 showed flames ripping through the roof of the building and a plume of gray smoke rising into the air.

Firefighters managed to knock down the fire by 7:30 p.m.

The cause and the extent of the property damage were under investigation. No injuries were reported.
