A 26-year-old man suspected of possessing methamphetamine while living in a garage with a 1-year-old child is due in court Wednesday in Riverside County.

Authorities found Chavez on Saturday in a garage in the 3200 block of Central Street in Wildomar after a report of illegal drug abuse at the location. The child was turned over to child protective services, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

It was not immediately clear whether or how Chavez is related to the child.

Chavez was scheduled to appear at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta on Wednesday.

Authorities arrested Chavez on suspicion of numerous charges including possession of a controlled substance, using or being under the influence of a controlled substance and willful harm or endangerment of a child.
