A man died early Tuesday after the car he was driving crashed into a tree and burst into flames in Hancock Park, officials said.

The incident occurred on the 600 block of North Highland Avenue, just south of Melrose Avenue, said authorities with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Officials said they were notified just before 4:30 a.m., and the driver was pronounced dead on the scene.

The release of his identity is pending notification of his relatives, said LAPD Sgt. Ben Zucker.

The investigation is ongoing.
