All five lanes of the northbound 405 Freeway will be closed Monday and Tuesday in West Los Angeles as work continues on the Sepulveda Pass Improvement project, officials said.

The lanes will be closed from midnight to 5 a.m., with ramp closures beginning at 7 p.m. Monday and lane closures starting at 10 p.m., according to Metro spokesman Dave Sotero.

Crews will work on striping and shifting traffic lanes, Sotero said. Work on the southbound lanes was completed early Sunday morning, he said.

On Monday night, the freeway between Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards will be closed. Officials suggest drivers exit at Santa Monica Boulevard, turn right onto eastbound Santa Monica Boulevard, turn left onto northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, turn right onto eastbound Wilshire Boulevard, and reenter the northbound freeway.

The Tuesday night closure will be from Wilshire Boulevard and Moraga Drive. Drivers should exit at westbound Wilshire Boulevard, turn right onto northbound Sepulveda Boulevard, turn left onto the Moraga Drive northbound 405 ramp, according to Metro.

This week also marks the end of the project’s longest ramp closure. The Sunset Boulevard ramp will be reopened after nearly four months of work at 6 a.m. Monday. The seismically updated ramp was lengthened to fit 50 queued cars to divert traffic from the 405, Metro said.

The Montana exit will be permanently closed by Monday morning. Space needed for an additional lane would have reduced the short ramp’s size even further, making it unsafe for decelerating cars, Sotero said. Additional capacity has been added at Wilshire and Sunset to make up for the closure, he said.

The Sepulveda Pass Improvement project is about 85% complete, he said.
