A man in his 60s who was reportedly wielding a rifle and a handgun at his home in Granada Hills was shot and killed by police Monday night, authorities said.

Officers were called to the 12700 block of Woodley Avenue about 10:20 p.m. after reports of shots fired.

Police tried to make contact with the man, who was not immediately identified, but he would not leave his home, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Jerretta Sandoz.

About an hour later, the man exited out a rear door and “threatened the officers with the rifle,” Sandoz said.

Police opened fire and struck the man, killing him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sandoz said the investigation was ongoing and that no officers were hurt.
