Los Angeles police are searching for two suspects in a Sunday night shooting in Watts that left a man dead and his wife wounded.

The incident happened just after 11 p.m. in the 9700 block of Beach Street, when the unidentified man went outside his home to check on a noise -- possibly a car alarm, police told KTLA.

“He went outside to the noise that he heard, and he was confronted by a suspect,” said Capt. Tom McMullen. “Our victim intended to run back inside the house, at which time the suspect chased him and shots were fired and he was struck.”

The victim’s wife was also hit at least twice, police said.

They were transported to a local hospital, where the male victim died, police said. The woman was reportedly in stable condition.

Suspect descriptions were not immediately available, though police said one might have been wearing a mask. It was also not known whether they fled on foot or in a vehicle.

Investigators said they are looking into whether the suspects have a connection to the couple, and whether the car alarm might have been a ruse to lure them outside.
