Charles Manson is commitment-phobic? Won’t marry prison girlfriend

Charles Manson’s girlfriend can’t be too happy about this. She’s all like “Charlie and I are going to get married.” But Charlie’s all like, No, we’re not.

Meanwhile, all the single guys on planet Earth are like: “Charles Manson has a girlfriend?!?”

Ah, love, so fickle.

Rolling Stone is rocking the Internets with an article headlined: “Charles Manson Today: The Final Confessions of a Psychopath.” The must-read is by turns riveting, and revolting -- and no doubt infuriating to the family of Manson’s victims.

Manson, 79, gets to enjoy candy bars and sodas, and a head scratch from his fetching 25-year-old girlfriend, Star, who claims that she is going to be his lawfully wedded wife?

How nice for the nation’s most notorious convicted killer, who has a swastika carved into his forehead. (Manson was convicted of conspiracy to commit multiple murders, and is in Corcoran State Prison serving a life sentence for his part in the Tate-LaBianca killings in 1969.)

Star, the girlfriend, is helping to fuel the way in which this article is gaining traction. Also adding fuel to the fire, of course, is Rolling Stone’s decision to circle back to the well of notorious celebrity.

Earlier this year, the magazine took heat for a cover story that critics say served up rock star treatment to the Boston Marathon bombing suspect. Outrage aside, Rolling Stone saw its magazine sales double with that issue.

What do you think? Do you agree with the magazine’s latest editorial subject?

Those who commented on the article seem divided. “It should be against all regulations making people like this a hero, only in US,” said one post.

But another comment said there was actually something to learn from the piece, which explored Manson’s entourage outside the prison walls: “...it’s still horrible and fascinating how he manages to hold power over people, even from prison. Every bit of media attention he still gets is an attempt to understand how that works, even if it is a bit misguided.”
