Pedestrian struck and killed by SUV in Huntington Beach

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing Beach Boulevard in Huntington Beach on Monday night, authorities said.

The Huntington Beach Police Department responded to the incident, which occurred at 6:12 p.m. Monday, near Beach Boulevard and Yorktown Avenue. A 59-year-old woman from Corona del Mar, who was driving a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, struck and killed an unidentified man, police said.

Police said that the man was known as a transient. The Orange County coroner’s office identified him as a 61-year-old in a news release, but has not released his name pending family notification.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with police, Sgt. Joshua Page said. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected.

An initial police investigation showed that the woman was driving southbound on Beach Boulevard when she
struck the man, who was crossing westbound on Beach outside of the crosswalk. He suffered extensive injuries and was transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the HBPD Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team. Anyone with information is asked to contact Traffic Investigator Doug Demetre at (714) 536-5670.
