High School Roundup: Pacifica Christian O.C. boys’ basketball shares San Joaquin League title

Judah Brown had 24 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Pacifica Christian Orange County High boys’ basketball team to a share of the San Joaquin League championship with a 63-55 win at Saddleback Valley Christian 63-55 on Thursday.

Charles Erving scored 15 points for Pacifica Christian (21-7, 7-1 in league), which split the league title with Fairmont Prep.

Houston Mallette had 12 points, eight assists and five steals for the Tritons, who are ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern Section Division 2A poll and begin the playoffs next week.

Los Amigos 62, Bolsa Grande 47: Brian Pacheco had 17 points for the host Lobos in a Garden Grove League finale Thursday.

Ata Khalil added 10 points for Los Amigos (18-8, 9-1 in league), which had already clinched its first league title since the 2001-02 season. Marco Vasquez had 10 points.

Los Amigos, ranked No. 8 in CIF Southern Section Division 5A, begins the postseason next week.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Laguna Beach 0, Newport Harbor 0: The visiting Breakers clinched second place in the Wave League and a CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoff spot after Thursday’s match.

Laguna Beach finished the regular season 6-5-6 overall and 2-1-3 in the league.

Third-place Newport Harbor (15-5-5, 2-2-2) will apply for an at-large berth into the Division 1 playoffs.

Ocean View 2, Godinez 1: The Seahawks clinched second place in the Golden West League after Thursday’s regular-season finale at home.

Ocean View (12-11-1, 6-3-1 in league) will vie in the CIF Southern Section Division 4 playoffs next week.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Costa Mesa 0, Estancia 0: Mustangs goalkeeper Walter Olmedo made four saves in a scoreless tie between the Battle for the Bell rivals on Thursday in an Orange Coast League match on the road.

Marco Castrejon missed a penalty kick over the crossbar in the final 10 minutes for Costa Mesa (4-10-8, 2-3-5 in league; 11 points), which finished the season in fourth place.

Estancia (5-11-7, 4-2-4; 16 points) took third place and will await its draw when the CIF Southern Section releases the Division 2 playoff pairings on Saturday.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Fairmont Prep 57, Sage Hill 51: Isabel Gomez had 27 points and 10 rebounds for the host Lightning on Thursday in a San Joaquin League game.

Gomez made seven three-pointers in the contest for Sage Hill (16-9, 4-4 in league). Emily Elliott also had 13 points and 16 rebounds, and Joyce Jogwe contributed nine points and five rebounds.

The Lightning finished the season in third place in the league.
