High School Roundup: Megan Chelf sets CdM girls’ soccer single-season scoring record

Megan Chelf set the Corona del Mar High girls’ soccer single-season record with her 18th goal, helping the Sea Kings win 2-1 at Fountain Valley in a Sunset Conference crossover match on Thursday.

Ally Brahs had the previous record with 17 goals in 2011, coach Bryan Middleton said.

Chelf scored off Avery Doherty’s assist for CdM (9-1-3) before Natalie Hueston’s second-half penalty kick, drawn by Mia Ferrentino, was the deciding goal.

CdM plays at Marina on Tuesday at 3 p.m., while Fountain Valley (6-5-3) plays at Edison on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Edison 2, Marina 0: Rachelle Elve and Morgan Roberts scored for the Chargers in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover match at Edison High.

Abby McCollam and Cecilia Roghair had assists for Edison (10-4-1), which hosts Fountain Valley on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Marina (6-5-5) hosts CdM on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Los Alamitos 1, Newport Harbor 0: The Sailors suffered their second straight loss, falling to 11-2-4 after losing the Sunset Conference crossover match Thursday at home.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Pacifica Christian Orange County 82, Sage Hill 63: Judah Brown had 24 points,10 rebounds and five blocks for the Tritons in Thursday’s nonleague game at Sage Hill School.

Houston Mallette had 16 points and six assists for Pacifica Christian (13-5), while Solomon Davis had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Sage Hill is 10-9 overall.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Marina 41, Edison 40: Emily Sakamoto had a team-high 18 points and four rebounds to lead the Vikings to a narrow win in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover game.

Katie Nguyen, who missed the last five games with an ankle sprain, had 10 points, five steals, four rebounds and two blocks. Kat Robinson added eight points for the Vikings (13-7).

Edison dropped to 8-9 with the loss.

Huntington Beach 67, Laguna Beach 10: Meghan McIntyre and Alyssa Real each had 13 points for the victorious Oilers in Thursday’s Sunset Conference crossover game at Laguna Beach High.

Bella Serrano also had 10 points for Huntington Beach (12-5).

Laguna Beach dropped to 15-4 overall.

Los Alamitos 57, Newport Harbor 10: Chloe Swanson had 12 rebounds, and Emma Fults added 10 rebounds in defeat for the host Sailors (10-11) in a Sunset Conference crossover game on Thursday.

Estancia 33, Los Amigos 28: The Eagles outscored the visiting Lobos 11-4 in the third quarter to pave the way for Estancia to come away with Thursday’s nonleague win.

Estancia improved to 6-10 overall, while Los Amigos fell to 2-16 for the season.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

Newport Harbor 16, Rosary 5: Kili Skibby, Linnea Kelly, Annie Rankin and Taylor Smith all scored three goals for the Sailors in Thursday’s nonleague game.

Newport Harbor (8-3) hosts the Bishop’s School of La Jolla on Saturday at 11 a.m.

San Clemente 11, Huntington Beach 10 (OT): The Oilers are 6-3 after Thursday’s nonleague home loss.

Huntington Beach plays Orange Lutheran on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Santiago Canyon College.
