Costa Mesa police seek man suspected in South Coast Plaza sex assault

Police are looking for a man suspected of sexually assaulting a woman in the parking lot outside the South Coast Plaza shopping center in Costa Mesa.

Police said the man followed the woman to her car shortly after 5:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and began forcibly touching her.

The woman was able to fight off the man, police said. She was not injured.

The suspect was described as 17 to 22 years old, about 5-foot-8 with a slim build and short dark hair.

Security camera footage provided by authorities shows the man wearing a dark blue shirt and shorts, a blue hat with a white logo and gray shoes.

Police said the suspect may have tried to approach other women in the parking lot. Anyone with information about him is asked to call Costa Mesa detectives at (714) 754-5120.
