A homeless woman was arrested after a father and son returned to their Costa Mesa home and found her hiding in the bathroom, according to police.

The two had just arrived home from work around 7 a.m. when they discovered the woman in their house in the 1300 block of Adams Avenue, Costa Mesa police Sgt. Jim Brown said.

The woman apparently had broken in without waking the father’s wife, who was asleep in a bedroom, according to police.

The family called police and detained the woman until officers arrived and arrested her on suspicion of residential burglary, Brown said.

The woman was looking for a place to sleep after she became homeless upon dropping out of a sober-living program in Costa Mesa, Brown said.

Authorities identified her as Deanna Edwards, 25.
