Former Lakers’ assistant general manager Ronnie Lester has taken a position with the Phoenix Suns.

According to Paul Coro of azcentral.com, Lester was hired on Monday as a “master evaluator” along with Washington Wizards director of player personnel Pat Connelly.

Both will join the Suns’ scouting staff “in unspecified roles,” the website reported.

Lester was a guard for the Lakers from 1984 to 1986, winning a championship in 1985. He joined the front office as a scout in 1987, worked his way up and served as an assistant GM for 10 years.

The Lakers let Lester go prior to the 2011 lockout.

Phoenix recently hired Ryan McDonough as general manager. Jeff Hornacek was just named head coach.

The Suns have the 5th, 30th and 57th picks in the 2013 NBA Draft.
