After Week 2 of the 2013-14 NBA season, the Lakers dropped two spots in the Western Conference to 12th place.

With a 1-3 record for the week, the Lakers (3-5) are now 3 1/2 games behind the first-place San Antonio Spurs (6-1).

Only three teams in the Eastern Conference have winning records with the Indiana Pacers the only undefeated franchise left in the NBA at 7-0. The surprising Philadelphia 76ers have matched the Miami Heat with a 4-3 start.

Nine teams in the West have records above .500 including four teams at 4-3 (Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors and Clippers).

The Lakers are the only team with eight games already played. At this early point in the season, the 12th-place Lakers are only two games behind the fifth-place Portland Trail Blazers (4-2).

Defensively the Lakers are giving up 106.5 points a night, worst in the West -- although only 0.2 behind the Clippers.

Of course the Clippers score 110 a night while the Lakers are at a comparatively anemic 97.3 points per game.
