Young love is wonderful. Unless you are a golfer, apparently. If you don’t believe that, ask golfing legend Gary Player.

Player, who won nine major titles in his career, offered some advice to Rory McIlroy in an interview over the weekend with website talksport. McIlroy seemed on the verge of becoming the best player in the world after winning the 2011 U.S. Open and the 2012 PGA Championship, but his game has fallen apart recently. Some blame the fact that McIlroy has a new girlfriend, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, and spends some of his free time traveling to tennis tournaments to watch her play.

“When you’re in love as a young man, naturally golf seems to take second place for a while,” Player said. “That’s natural. Love is still the greatest thing that ever happened in our lives.”

“Now the thing is, for a man like Rory, the talent galore, he’s got to make sure he has a woman like I’ve got. We’ve been married for 56 years, and she has only encouraged me to do well and made all the sacrifices,” Player said. “He’s got to be intelligent and find the right wife. If he finds the right wife ... he could be the man.”

So apparently, the lesson here for you women out there is to put all your dreams and aspirations away and devote time to making sure your boyfriend or husband can concentrate on his dreams and aspirations.
