After only 34 days and one upset loss to American Sloane Stephens in Cincinnati, Maria Sharapova has fired Jimmy Connors as her coach.

Sharapova released a statement that said, “It’s not the right fit for this time in my career.” Sharapova said she will play the U.S. Open later this month without a coach.

Connors, who won eight major tournaments, also had a brief experience coaching American Andy Roddick in 2008. That relationship lasted only 18 months.
