Viking Star completed its debut sailing, going from Istanbul to Venice, on Wednesday en route to Norway where it will be christened in May. It’s the first ship in the new Viking Ocean Cruises line, part of the company best known for its river cruises.

The Viking Ocean Cruises ship can carry 930 passengers in 465 cabins, each with its own veranda. Two more ships -- the Viking Sea and Viking Sky -- are on order for the line created by the river cruise line founded in 1997.

The Viking Star’s decor on board is distinctly Scandinavian, featuring “clean lines, woven textiles and light wood,” according to a Viking announcement.

The ship features an infinity pool off the stern that offers panoramic views from the ship; an Explorer’s Lounge decorated with imagery and maps meant to evoke early Viking routes; and a spa that includes a snow room and hydrotherapy pool.

The Wintergarden has “trees” created from blond wood to form the canopy of an elaborate lounge. And a Viking Living Room features a garden inspired by wild lichen.

Optional excursions include a private visit to Istanbul’s church-turned-mosque-turned-museum Hagia Sophia at night, cooking with an Italian countess in her palace in Venice and kayaking in Norway’s fjords.

The Viking Star will sail to Bergen, Norway, for its christening on May 17, which coincides with Norwegian Constitution Day.

Viking is offering 2-for-1 pricing on 2016 ocean cruises and up to $750 per person on international airfares for those who book by April 30.
